Water Line Leak Sends Landslide Onto Street

Los Angeles city street maintenance crews resumed their efforts Monday to remove dirt piled up to 10 feet deep on a roadway near Windsor Hills after a landslide blamed on a leaky water line.

A DWP official said part of the line belonged to a homeowner on an adjacent street. “There was a problem on their (the homeowner’s) side of the meter,” said Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Mindy Berman.

No injuries or major damage was reported, but traffic on Don Milagro Drive was diverted while crews cleared a 50-foot segment of the road in the 4400 block. A spokeswoman for the city said the dirt removal operation, which had ceased during the night, resumed about 8 a.m. Monday.
