Anti-War Groups Plan 2 ‘Days of Dissent’
Anti-war groups who have decried Los Angeles’ homecoming parade for U.S. troops as glorification of warfare called Wednesday for two “days of dissent” this weekend as a protest against the Sunday pageant in Hollywood.
Groups that include the Los Angeles Coalition Against U.S. Intervention in the Middle East and Alliance for Survival announced press conferences, a tribute to war resisters and a screening of rare footage of civilian casualties in Iraq.
War protesters endorsed plans for a candlelight procession Sunday evening beginning at All Saints Church in Pasadena as a counterdemonstration. Activists plan to display a coffin draped in flags of combatant nations and a negotiating table to illustrate an alternative to warfare.
