NATION IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : 1 Killed, 10 Hurt by Lightning at School
One person was killed and 10 were injured when lightning struck a crowd of students on the grounds of fashionable St. Albans prep school in the nation’s capital during a lacrosse match with Landon Boys School. Noah Eig, 15, of Bethesda, Md., was killed. At least nine victims, including a woman, 42, were taken to hospitals, with one in serious condition. The injured were not identified. The incident occurred when students sought shelter under a tree during a thunderstorm, and lightning struck the tree. The students at St. Albans generally come from wealthy and influential families.
