Crash Kills 2 Adults; 4 Children Are Unhurt

Two adults were killed but their four children survived without injury when their automobile was struck in Lancaster by a van hauling a horse trailer, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

The adults, whose identities are being withheld until relatives are notified, were traveling west on Avenue L when their car were struck by the van traveling north on 10th Avenue West, Deputy Russ Bailey said. The children in the car ranged in age from 1 month to 6 years. The driver of the van, Edward Schultz, 73, of Lancaster, was not injured, Bailey said.

After hitting the car, Schultz’s van continued north and struck an automobile driven by Michael Baldwing, 25, of Lancaster, according to the sheriff’s report. Baldwing was not injured.

The cause of the accident, which occurred about 6 p.m. Saturday, was under investigation, Bailey said.
