Inaba Knocked Out of NCAA Championships
After advancing earlier in the day, Robyn Inaba of UC San Diego lost in the second round of singles in the NCAA Division III women’s tennis championships at Emory University in Atlanta.
Eighth-seeded Jacqueline Aurella of Kalamazoo (Mich.) defeated unseeded Inaba, 6-2, 6-2, in the second round. Inaba had advanced by downing Traci Allen of Sweet Briar College, 6-1, 6-3.
GYMNASTICS
Santee’s Jenna Herrmann, 11, finished 12th in the Elite Junior B Division at the U.S. Classic gymnastics meet Sunday at Huntington Beach. The top 18 make up the U.S. national team training squad. Herrmann is the first gymnast from San Diego to reach that level.
GOLF
UC San Diego will compete in the 72-hole NCAA Division III championships beginning today at the Firethorn Club in Lincoln, Neb.
DUALATHLON
San Diego’s Mac Williamson and Vista’s Kristi Kidwell were the top men’s and women’s finishers in Sunday’s Irvine X-Isle Dualathlon, which combined a 5K run, 20K bike race and another 5K run. Williamson, 26, finished in 57 minutes, 13 seconds. Kidwell, 30, clocked 1:05:11. San Diego’s Dan Rock was third (58.22) among the men. Solana Beach’s Helen Knox (1:09.27) was third in the women’s.
