Santa Fe Springs : Restaurant Owner to Build Helipad, Give It to the City
A local restaurant owner has struck an agreement with the Santa Fe Springs City Council by which he will build a helicopter landing pad, and later turn it over to the city.
Restaurateur Don Callender will use the helipad to commute between Santa Fe Springs, where he is building the Garlic Rose, and his existing Moreno Valley restaurant, city officials said.
The $10,000 helipad will be constructed on undeveloped, city-owned land adjacent to the restaurant parking lot and near the Heritage Corporate Center business park. Callender will give the helipad to the city in approximately four months, which is about how long Santa Fe Springs will need to get operating permits for the 60-by-60-foot asphalt square, Assistant City Manager Frederick Latham said.
The city wants the helipad as a landing site for emergency police, medical and firefighting services.
