It’s the kind of school dance that many of us social dropouts might have attended in our undergraduate days.

Presenting, Whittier College’s first annual . . .

Tacky Prom!

“It was a spoof of how rigid proms can be, the idea that you have to look a certain way, dress a certain way and provide a certain kind of entertainment,” said Yuko Sakamoto, a college spokeswoman.

Tackees came with hair in curlers, with unmatching nail colors, with unmatching outfits, and with jewelry that could never be matched with anything.

“They even had a disco ball, like the one in ‘Saturday Night Fever,’ ” Sakamoto said.

The official theme: “I’ll Still Respect You in the Morning.”

What city has approximately 12,000 horses, each generating approximately 22 pounds of manure per day?

“Dodge City?” writes Julie Jaskol, an aide to Councilman Mike Woo. “No--only in L.A.”

Those were the figures contained in a recent report released by the city Bureau of Sanitation on L.A. horsepower.

And you thought L.A. was an automobile culture.

List of the Day:

Old L.A. city fire houses that have been recycled:

1--No. 28, 7th and Figueroa, a restaurant aptly named Engine Co. No. 28.

2--No. 32, Beverly and Reno, a market.

3--No. 17, 7th and Santa Fe, an auto repair shop.

4--No. 23, 5th and Wall, retired but had role in “Ghostbusters” movie.

5--No. 27, Cahuenga and De Longpre, soon to become Fire Department museum.

The adventurous as well as the hungry are invited to the Pasadena Chili Cookoff, a June 23 charity event for area youth sponsored by the Outlaw Chili Society (818-577-5817).

Delicacies served will include Tex/Malaysian chili, French escargot chili and California rattlesnake chili.

Our recent mention of car dealers and their slogans the other day moved reader Marvin Leaf to submit a nomination for: “Most Unnecessary and Superfluous Automobile Warning Imaginable.”

The reminder on cardboard sun shields that says: “Warning: Do not drive with auto-shield in place. Remove from windshield before starting ignition!”

We almost never forget.

And 25,999 always seem to be taken:

There are about 26,000 parking spaces at Los Angeles International Airport.
