4 Schools in County Win National Awards
Four schools in Los Angeles County were among the 222 nationwide to be named Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.
The ABC Unified School District had two winners--Carmenita Junior High School and Whitney High, both in Cerritos. Other local winners were Manhattan Beach Intermediate School in Manhattan Beach and Notre Dame Academy, a Westside Catholic girls’ school.
For this year’s Blue Ribbon awards, conferred annually, schools were asked to report their progress toward achieving the six education goals adopted by President Bush and the nation’s governors. Honorees get plaques and a Blue Ribbon flag to be flown over their campuses.
