Cal State Northridge President James W. Cleary will depart on a three-month leave of absence next month to work on a book and care for his wife, who is recovering from an ankle injury, officials announced Thursday.

Cleary, 64, who has been CSUN president for 22 years, will leave June 3 and return Aug. 24, university spokeswoman Kaine Thompson said.

Elliot Mininberg, the university’s vice president of administration and university advancement, will serve as acting president, Thompson said.

Cleary will be working at home to finish a book on parliamentary procedure, Thompson said.

“We don’t expect this to cause any problem, since Dr. Cleary normally takes five weeks of vacation in the summer,” she said.
