RESCUERS: Poland wasn’t the only European country where Christians helped save Jews during the Holocaust (E1), says Rabbi Haim Asa of Fullerton’s Temple Beth Tikvah. . . . The 50,000 Jews in Asa’s native Bulgaria at the outset of the war grew to 51,000 at the war’s end. On one occasion, Asa recalled, the Bulgarian people marched in protest against a Nazi order that would have sent Jews to death camps. Asa may soon return to Bulgaria to publicize their role.
