New York Met infielder Gregg Jefferies, upset over criticism by teammates, issued an open letter to explain his side to the fans. On WFAN radio, Jefferies said he was tired of getting buried in the press and wanted the fans to know he always tried his best.

Catcher Rick Cerone and pitcher Ron Darling called a players-only meeting, then the Mets beat St. Louis, 6-2.

Conversation “was heated at times, but Gregg had his say and some people were able to talk to him,” David Cone said.
