Super Six Pool Tops $1 Million
The Super Six carryover pool increased to more than $1 million Friday at Louisiana Downs--largest ever in Louisiana and believed the second largest in North America--when no one picked the winners in races No. 3 through No. 8 for the eighth consecutive day.
Track officials said the carryover pool was second only to the $1,830,146 Jan. 23 at Santa Anita.
The carryover pool was $604,490.79. The on-track crowd of 9,073 wagered $372,248 on the Super Six. In addition, Nevada outlets wagered $182,939 and those at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., contributed $124,162 for a total of $836,190 from all outlets.
There were no winning favorites in the Super Six races.
The major longshot who undoubtedly hurt most tickets Friday was Chief Crook’s win in the eighth race. The 6-year-old gelding paid $65 to win.
