California IN BRIEF : SOUTH LAKE TAHOE : Girl, 2 1/2, Stabbed to Death; Man Killed

A 2 1/2-year-old girl was stabbed to death and her mother was seriously injured Saturday morning. Police said a man who knew the woman was also stabbed to death in the incident at a Fern Road house near the Stateline, Nev., casino area. The names of all three were withheld pending notification of family members. According to police, the man entered the woman’s house to use her phone, but drew a knife and attacked her. All three were stabbed during the struggle. “He just accosted her for reasons that are unclear,” Sgt. Brad Bennett said. “He was an acquaintance of the woman. The accosting may have been of a sexual nature.”
