Bray Loses Decision in U.S.-Cuba Meet
John Bray of Van Nuys, the national amateur heavyweight boxing champion, lost a unanimous 3-0 decision to Felix Savon at 201 pounds Saturday in the U.S.-Cuba competition at Ft. Bragg, N.C.
Savon is the defending Pan American Games champion. Earlier this year he won the World Cup Challenge in Bangkok, Thailand.
Savon also won the 1990 Goodwill Games title. Bray, 20, lost in the quarterfinals of that competition.
The dual meet ended in a 6-6 tie. The United States had lost 15 consecutive meets to Cuba. It was the first meeting between the countries since 1988.
