A 53-year-old Glendale woman died Sunday after the car in which she was riding crashed into a concrete wall along the Ventura Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.

Anahit Akopian was killed at about 1 p.m. when the driver of the car lost control for unknown reasons while headed east on the Ventura Freeway near Brand Boulevard, Officer Calvin Aubrey said.

Akopian was pronounced dead on arrival at Glendale Adventist Hospital. She had suffered head injuries.

The car had just entered the Ventura Freeway at Pacific Avenue headed east and was merging left when the driver lost control and spun around, Aubrey said.

“The were going backward along the right shoulder; while going backward they struck the curb,” Aubrey said.

The driver and three other passengers were uninjured, Aubrey said. The CHP was unable to determine if the victim was wearing a seat belt. No charges were filed in the case.
