SIMI VALLEY : Meeting Planned to Get Reaction to Fees

Share

Simi Valley officials are scheduled to hold a public meeting tonight to solicit comments on proposed new fees from developers that would help pay for citywide traffic improvements.

The meeting is to take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the community room at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road, said Charles Dabbs, a city official.

Mayor Greg Stratton and Councilman Glen McAdoo are part of a special committee studying the fee proposal, Dabbs said. Both will attend, he said.

Under the plan being considered by the city, commercial and residential developers would be charged $95.73 for each daily trip generated by new construction. Money generated from the fees would be used for street improvements. The traffic fee would not be applied to developers who already have building permits.

Stratton has said he disapproves of some of the provisions of the fee proposal. He said increases in traffic are caused by increases in population, not additional commercial development.

For this reason, he said residential developers should pay more in traffic fees.
