City Urged Not to Add to Traffic
Your story on traffic (“County on a Collision Course With Gridlock,” April 21) was very timely. As a candidate in November’s City Council race in Thousand Oaks, I pointed out at every opportunity that not only was the Ventura Freeway facing gridlock conditions on traffic flow maps, but the same thing was happening on Thousand Oaks Boulevard.
Still, the city of Thousand Oaks continues with its $129-million hotel-City Hall complex that includes restaurants and a theater. This will all be built on the former Jungleland site that sits between the Ventura Freeway and Thousand Oaks Boulevard. Because there will be no alternate route, the traffic will go beyond gridlock.
I’m not anti-growth, but I am against stupidity. I still believe that the city should move its proposed project to city-owned land in back of the soccer field off the Moorpark Freeway and Janss Road. It is not too late to do the right thing.
