GARDEN GROVE : Council Boosts Fines for Street Citations

Share

Residents who violate the city’s street-sweeping laws will now have to pay a stiffer fine.

The City Council voted 4 to 1 this week to increase street-sweeping citation fees from $21 to $23. The owners of cars parked on the street on days designated for street sweeping are subject to being fined.

City staff recommended the increase after surveying the neighboring cities of Anaheim, Orange and Santa Ana. Anaheim will fine violators $20 beginning in July, while Orange now charges $25 and Santa Ana $27.

“I would have liked to see us survey more cities,” said Councilman Robert F. Dinsen, who voted against raising the citation fees. “I think $23 is too high.”

Garden Grove started its street-sweeping citation program in 1982. An increase in county fees have resulted in additional costs, and more money is needed to maintain the city’s current level of street service, according to a city staff report.
