The pattern of morning clouds with the sun breaking through in the afternoon will persist through the weekend, keeping temperatures cool, according to the National Weather Service in San Diego.

June, which arrives Saturday, will live up to its reputation for gloom, forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said. May and June are the cloudiest months of the year in San Diego County.

“It will be a pretty nice weekend if we can live with the clouds,” he said.

The low clouds brought a light drizzle to areas from the mountains to the sea Thursday evening, but skies are expected to clear this afternoon as the low-pressure system begins moving eastward.

Thursday’s high at Lindbergh Field reached 64 degrees, and a high of 66 is expected today.

Sun lovers will have to go to the mountains and deserts to see a lot of sunshine. Even in those areas, conditions will be adversely affected by wind gusts to 30 m.p.h. and blowing dust, Shigehara said.

“If you’re planning to go to the beach, it won’t be the best weather,” Shigehara said. Temperatures will range from 60 to 64 today, 62 to 67 Saturday, and only a couple of degrees warmer Sunday, he said. The water temperature is 61, with waves at 3 to 4 feet.

Strong winds up to 30 m.p.h. off the Channel Islands are causing the waves as high as 4 feet, but the waves and wind are expected to calm over the weekend.

Along the coast, temperatures will range from 62 to 67 today, 63 to 68 Saturday and 67 to 72 by Sunday, Shigehara said. Nighttime temperatures will dip to 52 to 57, he said.

Inland, temperatures are expected to range from 65 to 71 today, 68 to 75 Saturday and 72 to 78 Sunday. Nighttime lows of 45 to 53 are forecast.

In the mountains, temperatures will range from 53 to 58 today, 60 to 67 Saturday and 63 to 68 Sunday, Shigehara said. Nights will be a chilly 28 to 38 tonight, 35 to 45 Saturday and 37 to 47 Sunday, he said.
