COUNTYWIDE : Student Selected for District Board
An Orange Coast College architecture student has been selected to serve as the student representative on the Coast Community College District Board of Trustees.
Kirsten Garwood, 27, of Huntington Beach was elected by the college district’s student council, which is made up of three students from each of the district’s three colleges--Orange Coast in Costa Mesa, Golden West in Huntington Beach, and Coastline in Fountain Valley.
Garwood will serve a one-year term beginning June 1. Student trustees can make motions and join in public discussion of issues, but they cannot vote or attend closed sessions of the trustees’ meetings.
Garwood is president of Orange Coast’s art and architecture club and is active in raising scholarship funds for the college’s architectural technology program, according to a college district spokeswoman.
As student trustee, Garwood said she hopes to “give back to the district and students the leadership skills that I have gained . . . from many administrators and faculty.”
