Crime Problems

Share

Why do so many people deny a problem that clearly exists? The killing at Zuma Beach (May 30) is enough to send a message of distress to everyone, not to mention the 17-year-old boy who was injured in April. The riots in Westwood. The “gangbangers” everywhere. The graffiti appearing everywhere. The RTD bus killing. The rapidly growing disregard for law and order.

All major problems, like Hitler, the Klan or skinheads, start with single incidents. How much warning do we need before we take steps to protect ourselves? How many murders, beatings and robberies does it take to constitute an “unsafe” area? Where is the visible police presence in Los Angeles that is vital to peacekeeping? Soon it will require the National Guard to restore order.
