‘Thelma & Louise’: What’s It All About?

Share

Regarding the commentaries “True or False: Thelma & Louise Just Good Ol’ Boys?” (May 31):

Bravo to Sheila Benson and Peter Rainer for their on-target reviews of the non -feminism of “Thelma & Louise.” They point out well what feminism is not--revenge against men. Feminism is not simply the reverse of what men do to women in most films, no matter what genre or type.

I suggest that director Ridley Scott and his ilk have not the least interest in making a picture about women who may have different values and perceptions than themselves. The use of women in leading roles serves only as a hook for these director-producers to propagate the values they take for granted as males in a male-dominated industry.

The only interest Scott may have in feminism is if the word itself can stimulate more ticket buyers and popcorn eaters. Very cynical and immoral, to my mind.
