AT&T; won a $100-million contract to upgrade the Polish telephone system. The deal is the largest ever for AT&T; in Poland, which is trying to modernize its internal telecommunications network. Last year, the company installed a $7-million exchange that will handle up to 60,000 international calls per hour, double the previous capacity. U.S. support for American exports to the newly emerging markets of Central Europe was cited as an important factor for AT&T;’s success in landing the contract.
