SANTA ANA : Library Reopens After Remodeling
After more than six months of delays, a remodeled Central Library opened this week.
“People have been shaking the doors every day for weeks hoping that the library was open,” Library Director Rob Richard said. “We had some last-minute computer problems this week, but they were solved, and we opened with little fanfare.”
The library, which has about 600,000 visitors each year, had been undergoing extensive renovation for about a year but was only supposed to be shut down for a few weeks when it closed in December.
“Those few weeks kind of dragged into months,” Richard said.
The $1.6-million renovation project includes a new children’s wing, more bookshelves, a reorganization of book selections and a remodeling to make entries accessible to disabled patrons.
The library, at Ross Street and Civic Center Drive, is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
