Two rock musicians were awarded $225,000 Tuesday to settle a lawsuit alleging that police beat them during a 1988 altercation at a Studio City apartment.

Calen Quinn, 23, of San Francisco and Mara Fox, 27, of Los Angeles charged that they were hit with batons and kicked by North Hollywood officers who burst into the apartment early on the morning of Nov. 26, 1988, after arresting a youth who was staying there.

Police contended that Quinn and Fox interfered with them and that Quinn tried to kick the sergeant, who struck him on the legs. Quinn suffered a fractured ankle. Deputy City Atty. John Wright declined to say exactly why the city decided to settle the case out of court, but he did say he was not happy with the settlement.
