Less than two months after capturing the suspected A’s Bandit, San Diego police are looking for a new serial bank robber believed to be responsible for a dozen heists in the past two weeks.

Police believe the bandit has hit banks in Chula Vista, La Mesa, National City, Spring Valley and El Cajon. Police from these communities have joined in the search for the robber, who began his spree the last week in May.

The latest robbery occurred at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Bank of Southern California, 3026 Midway Drive, said Bill Robinson, a spokesman for the San Diego Police Department. Less than $500 was taken, he said.

In each robbery, the bandit waited his turn in a teller’s line and then presented a demand note, said Robinson.

The robber is described as a white, in his mid-20s, 5-foot-8 to 6-feet tall, 165 pounds, thin build, with collar-length, wavy dark brown hair.

It is not known if the bandit carries a gun, Robinson said.

On April 26, police arrested David Mailey, 21, in connection with a string of 29 bank heists that occurred within three months and were called the A’s Bandit robberies because of the Oakland Athletics baseball cap the bandit wore during the first seven robberies.
