No Charges Will Be Filed Against Mother Who Hid Her Stillborn Baby

Criminal charges will not be filed against a Glendale woman who was arrested after her dead premature infant was found hidden in her motel room, authorities said Tuesday.

Susan Goodson, 39, was arrested on suspicion of murder Friday night after Glendale police received an anonymous call and found a baby boy’s body wrapped in plastic inside a pillowcase at the Savoy Motel.

Goodson was living there with her four older children.

Investigators believe that Goodson gave birth to the premature child in the room the previous day without medical help, Officer Mario Yagoda said.

“According to the coroner’s office, the child was stillborn, so there was no evidence of fetal homicide,” said Sharon Matsumoto, supervising deputy district attorney in Glendale.

Goodson was released from Glendale City Jail on Tuesday.

Police and prosecutors said they did not know whether she would be immediately reunited with her children.

The children were placed in protective custody by authorities when the woman was arrested.
