GARDEN GROVE : Police to Check for Seat-Belt Use

Share

To persuade drivers to buckle up, the Police Department will set up several seat-belt checkpoints in the city this week.

At them, officers will stop drivers to see whether they are wearing seat belts. Those not wearing the belts will given a traffic citation.

The places and specific times for the checkpoints, which will begin today and continue through Saturday, will be chosen as random.

The department is participating in “70 by 92,” a nationwide campaign whose goal is to raise seat-belt use to at least 70% by 1992.

In 1990, more than 50,000 traffic fatalities in the United States could have been avoided had the people involved been wearing seat belts, said Charles Cline of the Garden Grove police traffic unit.
