Japan’s trade surplus rose 35.3% in May from a year earlier, but its surplus with the United States shrank, the Finance Ministry reported. Japan’s global surplus rose to $4.18 billion in May as exports rose 13.3% to $24.41 billion, while imports as measured when goods pass through customs rose 9.6% to $20.23 billion.
