CAMARILLO : City Council OKs 4-Way Stop Sign

Share

The Camarillo City Council approved a four-way stop sign at the intersection of Mission Oaks Boulevard and Fieldcrest Drive, where a 9-year-old boy died in a traffic accident in May.

“Putting a four-way stop sign doesn’t mean all the problems will go away,” City Traffic Engineer Tom Fox said. “In some cases, a four-way stop sign can cause more accidents.”

Fox recommended that the city post “stop ahead” signs and that traffic engineers monitor the intersection, conduct speeding surveys and work closely with Las Colinas School officials in instructing children on traffic safety.

Kathy Swenson, president of the Las Colinas School PTA, gave the council a petition with the signatures of 1,527 residents who support the stop signs.

In addition, Las Colinas Principal Bill Lamp told the council that there was a definite need for a crossing guard at Clearwater Street and Fieldcrest because use of the intersection has increased.
