WEEKEND TV SPORTS : Angels, U.S. Open and Davis Cup

Southland sports fans can watch the Angels on the road, golf’s U.S. Open and tennis’ Davis Cup quarterfinals this weekend.

* Baseball: The Angels face the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park Sunday at 10 a.m. on KTLA Channel 5. Major league baseball returns to CBS after a two-weekend absence with the San Diego Padres-Chicago Cubs game at noon today on Channels 2 and 8. ESPN’s Sunday game at 5 p.m. matches the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Francisco Giants.

Golf: The star-crossed U.S. Open continues with third-round coverage beginning at 10:30 a.m. today on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42. The same stations air the final round at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Tennis: Rick Leach of Laguna Beach and Jim Pugh of Rancho Palos Verdes seek to remain undefeated in Davis Cup play when they face Spain’s Sergio Casal and Emilio Sanchez today at Newport, R.I. ESPN’s delayed coverage begins at noon. In Sunday’s singles matches, John McEnroe meets Sanchez and Brad Gilbert opposes Tomas Carbonell. ESPN’s coverage begins at 1:30 p.m.
