OXNARD : Body Identified as That of Transient

The body of a woman found in the Santa Clara riverbed next to Oxnard’s River Ridge Golf Course has been identified as a transient who died of natural causes, a coroner’s official said.

The body of Joyce Edith Foster, 50, was found in the riverbed Monday afternoon, said Lt. Joe Harwell of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

“A couple of young boys playing in the river bottom came across the body and reported it to us,” Harwell said. He estimated that the body, which was found fully clothed, had been in the riverbed for about two months.

Coroner’s investigator Dale Zentzis said the cause of Foster’s death was undetermined, but because there was no sign of trauma to the body, the cause of death has been attributed to natural causes.

Foster’s husband, John, who is also a transient, reported her missing in Santa Barbara two months ago, Harwell said.
