A Social Day-Care Program for people over 60 with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia is offered at the Bernardi Multipurpose Senior Center. The program is offered Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and features a care givers’ support group and counseling. Activities include arts and crafts, mild exercises and creative movement, music, singing and dancing. The program is partially funded by the city of Los Angeles’ Community Development Department and fees are determined according to the participants’ ability to pay. The Burbank Beautification Committee and the Burbank Realtors Graffiti Committee have declared June 29 “Spic ‘n’ Span Saturday.” Volunteers will meet at 7 a.m. in the parking lot of the Burbank Board of Realtors Building, 2006 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, and divide into groups to paint over graffiti. Old clothes and sneakers are recommended, and it is requested that volunteers bring old absorbent towels, inexpensive paint brushes and rubber gloves. Paint will be provided. The North Valley Family Counseling Center in San Fernando, under the auspices of the Sisters of Charity, offers several support groups on a weekly basis. A women’s support group in Spanish meets Saturdays, a counseling group for abused children meets Tuesdays and a group for people who are lonely and seek company meets Wednesdays.
