Mrs. Quayle Says Water at Home Is High in Lead

ORLANDO, Fla. — Marilyn Quayle said Friday that tests show unusually high levels of lead in the water at the vice president’s mansion.
“We’ve gotten some reports back that weren’t real heartening,” she said. “We had higher lead (readings) than what was supposed to be there in some of the different spigots, but it wasn’t all over the house.”
Mrs. Quayle, wife of Vice President Dan Quayle, said more tests are needed to determine whether there is a health hazard at the century-old Queen Anne-style mansion. Mrs. Quayle was in Orlando for a Republican Party fund-raising event.
White House physician Burton Lee III is overseeing the testing of water and air at the vice president’s home, as well as at the White House and Camp David.
