**1/2 TESLA “Five Man Video Band” Geffen ($19.95) .

Tesla has cashed in on the hard-rockers-go-acoustic fad with its hit album, “Five Man Acoustical Jam”; now comes an appropriately straightforward, unadorned concert video of the same club show that yielded the live LP. Tesla’s arena repertoire, plus select, reverently replicated oldies, come across in a sit-down performance that is both loose and focused. Jeff Keith’s Steve Marriott-meets-Robert Plant rasping grows labored at times, and doesn’t take full advantage of the setting’s intimacy. But nice harmonies provide a needed cushion, and the instrumental work is sharp and sensitive. Still, some arena cliches intrude, as if Tesla and its fans can’t quite escape the feeling that acoustic performance is just a gimmick, after all.
