FULLERTON : Katella’s Smith Named Top Teacher

Gary Smith has been selected as the outstanding biology teacher in California by the National Biology Teachers Assn.
Smith, a biology teacher at Katella High School, also was named Teacher of the Year in the Anaheim Union High School District.
Smith is a district science mentor teacher who is particularly interested in environmental education. He has conducted workshops on disposal of hazardous materials and wrote a 1,400-page teacher resource guide on teaching science using s global perspective.
In winning the state award, Smith will receive a variety of supplies and equipment for the biology laboratory at his high school.
He was also named the 1989 Global Education Teacher of the Year in 1989. Smith has taught at Katella since 1968.
