Argentine soccer star Diego Maradona failed to appear at the start of his trial in Naples, Italy, on drug charges, his lawyer saying he had been kept away by ill health.

His lawyer handed judges a certificate from doctors in Buenos Aires that said Maradona, 30, was “in a state of stress” and added that he is undergoing medical and psychological treatment.
