Noureddine Morceli of Algeria clocked the fastest time of the year in the 1,500 meters at the World Games Grand Prix track meet at Helsinki.
Morceli won the race in 3 minutes 31.00 seconds, near the world record of 3:29.46 set by Said Aouita of Morocco six years ago.
Simon Doyle of Australia was second in 3:32.79 with 1987 world champion Abdi Bile of Somalia third in 3:34.72. Steve Scott finished 12th in 3:40.49.
