Immigrant’s Road Has No Exit to Compassion
Re “Coming to America: Making the Grade,” June 18: Little wonder Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth and Brown want Joe Huynh in their freshman classes.
He retains material after one reading, but certainly nothing of the teachings of the church that sponsored his family, St. Finbar--love and compassion, if you please.
He manages to visit his mother once a month in a psychiatric hospital. Of course they can’t communicate since he only speaks English and his mother was derelict, unlike past immigrants in our history who conquered the language in no time.
And he’s not interested in having contact with his father who risked his life to save the family. Tennis trophies and collecting documents are more important to him.
