Allred to File Complaint for Laid-Off AIDS Patient

Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred said she will file a complaint today with the state Department of Fair Employment and Housing on behalf of a man who was suspended from his job in Torrance because he publicly admitted he tested positive for the AIDS virus.
Everado Mariscal, 26, was suspended from his job last Wednesday, a day after he disclosed his illness on a news program on Channel 52, a Spanish-language TV station.
Mariscal said that supervisors at Simpson Race Products in Torrance told him to go home because employees who knew of his condition refused to come to work. Mariscal said he was told he would continue to be paid, but did not know how long he would remain on the payroll at Simpson, which manufactures protective clothing, shoes and other items for race car drivers and crews.
