Carlton Fisk simply keeps going strong.

Fisk, the Chicago White Sox veteran catcher, hit a two-out home run in the 10th inning Monday night at Minneapolis to give the White Sox a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Fisk hit an 0-and-1 pitch from Carl Willis (2-2) well over the fence in left field for his sixth homer, ending a game in which both teams rallied in the eighth inning.

Bobby Thigpen (5-2) got the victory with 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

The Twins got a runner to third with two outs in the ninth, but Chuck Knoblauch’s grounder deflected off Thigpen to shortstop Ozzie Guillen, who barely got Knoblauch at first. Thigpen also escaped a first-and-third, one-out jam in the 10th by getting Chili Davis on a fielder’s choice and Scott Leius on a fly ball.

Minnesota has lost five of its last six games after winning 20 of 22.

Lance Johnson’s two-run double in the eighth capped a three-run burst that gave the White Sox a 4-3 lead.

Rick Aguilera relieved Steve Bedrosian with two out and runners at first and second, and promptly gave up a run-scoring double to Fisk. Johnson, who also singled in a run in the fourth, then doubled to put the White Sox ahead.

But the Twins tied the score in the bottom of the eighth on Kent Hrbek’s run-scoring single against Scott Radinsky.

Johnson’s run-scoring single gave the White Sox a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning before Kirby Puckett’s solo home run, his 11th of the season, tied the score in the bottom of the inning.

In the sixth inning, Pedro Munoz’s sacrifice fly broke the tie and Puckett, who had four hits, singled in a run to make the score 3-1.

Toronto 4, Seattle 3--Roberto Alomar scored the winning run in the ninth inning at Toronto when catcher Dave Valle took his foot off home plate on a force play.

Randy Johnson, who struck out 11 and walked none, took a two-hitter into the ninth. But he gave up a double to Mookie Wilson, then threw wildly to first after Devon White hit the ball back to the mound, allowing Wilson to go to third and White to second.

Mike Jackson (4-3) gave up a game-tying double to Alomar, who then stole third. Joe Carter and John Olerud were intentionally walked before Rob Murphy relieved Jackson.

Pinch-hitter Rance Mulliniks then hit a grounder to shortstop Omar Vizquel, whose throw home was in time to force Alomar. But umpire Ken Kaiser ruled that Valle took his foot off the plate too soon, allowing the winning run to score on the error.

Jim Acker (2-4) pitched the ninth for the victory in relief of starter David Wells.

Baltimore 10, Detroit 2--In his first outing since May 22, Ben McDonald limited the Tigers to two hits in eight shutout innings, retiring 24 of 26 at Baltimore.

Cal Ripken, David Segui, Sam Horn and Leo Gomez homered for the Orioles, who have won eight of 10.

Cecil Fielder’s single in the fifth and Rob Deer’s single in the eighth were the only hits given up by McDonald (3-3), who sat out five weeks because of a sore elbow.

Kansas City 7, Oakland 3--Mike Boddicker held the Athletics to four hits in 7 2/3 innings and Kevin Seitzer hit a three-run triple in the eighth at Oakland.

Boddicker (7-6) took a two-hitter into the eighth before giving up a two-run home run to Harold Baines. Jeff Montgomery pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for his 15th save.

Andy Hawkins (2-5) took the loss, giving up two runs and seven hits in seven innings.

New York 6, Cleveland 2--Jesse Barfield and Kevin Maas hit consecutive home runs against Greg Swindell (4-7) at New York as the Yankees handed the Indians their 21st loss in 24 games.

Scott Sanderson (9-3), who has won 10 consecutive starts against American League East teams since losing last Aug. 19 at Baltimore, pitched five innings for the victory. Lee Guetterman worked four scoreless innings for his fourth save.

Boston 6, Milwaukee 0--Roger Clemens rebounded from a bout with food poisoning to give up five hits in seven innings and rookie Mo Vaughn hit a home run and drove in four runs at Milwaukee.

Clemens (10-5) struck out eight and walked one for his first victory since June 14.
