The Chicago Bulls picked up the option on Cliff Levingston; the Philadelphia 76ers let Rick Mahorn become a free agent; the New York Knicks tendered a qualifying offer to John Starks, but not to Kenny Walker and Greg Grant.

The Houston Rockets let Dave Feitl go and kept the rights of first refusal to Kenny Smith, David Wood, Kennard Winchester and Matt Bullard; and the Dallas Mavericks gave qualifying offers to John Shasky, Kelvin Upshaw and Jim Grandholm, but did not to make an offer to Steve Alford. The Cleveland Cavaliers did not retain John Morton and Henry James but made qualifying offers to Gerald Paddio, Milos Babich and Derrick Chievous.

The Miami Heat gave qualifying offers to guards Sherman Douglas and Kevin Edwards while allowing forwards Terry Davis and Billy Thompson to become unrestricted free agents.
