OAK PARK : Funds Allocated for Cityhood Study
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday to allocate $4,950 to fund a study to see if Oak Park should become a city.
At the request of the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council and Supervisor Maria VanderKolk, the board decided to fund the study to determine whether incorporation of the community of about 10,400 people is feasible.
The preliminary study, which will be completed in six weeks, would determine whether Oak Park could generate enough revenue to pay for municipal services. The study will also evaluate whether local recreation and park services should be provided by the proposed city or the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District.
If the study concludes that no economic barrier stands in the way of the community incorporating, Oak Park’s advisory council could then ask the county to approve a more detailed study.
