A man who was sitting on the side of an Oxnard street with a friend was killed Wednesday when a car swerved off the road and struck him, a police spokesman said.

Amador Candelario, 24, of Oxnard was run over about 3 p.m. in the 1700 block of South Oxnard Boulevard, Officer Tom Chronister said.

Chronister said the car driven by Cliff Krahenbill, 37, of Santa Monica veered off Oxnard Boulevard and struck Candelario, who was reportedly resting on an utility hole cover about 10 feet from the road.

Injured in the accident was Cirilo Garcia, 24, of Oxnard, who was seated near the victim, Chronister said.

Garcia was sitting closest to the car and was thrown into the air on impact, police said. Candelario was pulled under the car and was dragged about 20 feet until the car stopped against a gas station sign pole, Chronister said.

Carlos Castro, the manager of a video store in the area, said he heard the sound of screeching brakes and looked up in time to see the accident.

“One of them was sliding along on the ground,” Castro said.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, Chronister said.
