BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Valenzuela’s Status Still Unsettled

Share

The status of pitcher Fernando Valenzuela remains unsettled, as the Angels attempt to reach an agreement with Valenzuela’s representatives on a minor league rehabilitation assignment for the 30-year-old left-hander.

Angel President Richard Brown said Dan O’Brien, the club’s senior vice president, spoke with Valenzuela’s agents Thursday and would continue talks today. The Angels announced Monday that Valenzuela had received medical clearance to pitch after medication cleared up a potential heart problem, but Valenzuela has not worked out with the team.

Pitcher Kirk McCaskill appears in a special issue of People magazine, having been judged by the magazine’s editors one of the “50 most beautiful people in the world in 1991.” McCaskill, pictured on the beach near his Corona del Mar home, was hesitant to accept the honor but agreed when his wife, Dana, suggested it would be fun.

McCaskill once had a bit part in a soap opera, but he’s not looking for any acting or modeling opportunities. “I just hope I don’t get too much grief (from his teammates) about it,” he said.

The crowd of 61,056 was the 11th-largest regular-season crowd at Anaheim Stadium and the first of 60,000-plus since Aug. 13, 1989 against Oakland.
