California IN BRIEF : OAKLAND : Alleged Rape Victim Sues Over Parolee

A 15-year-old Oakland girl has sued the state and Alameda County for negligence, saying that a man charged with sexually assaulting her in June was on parolee for raping her six years ago. Samuel Leon Barnett was paroled in April after serving half of a 12-year sentence for raping the girl when she was 9. Barnett was re-arrested and charged with 14 sexual assault-related counts and kidnaping after the girl told police Barnett and another man held her for seven hours and attacked her on June 10. Barnett pleaded not guilty. The other suspect is at large.
