HUNTINGTON BEACH : Six Seats Vacant on Advisory Board
The city is seeking applicants to fill more than half the seats on its Citizen Advisory Board, which recommends to the City Council how federal Community Development Block Grant funds should be spent.
Because of a recent wave of resignations, there are now six vacancies on the 11-member board. The other five members--Dorothy Campbell, Carol Kanode, Michael McMahon, Oliver Roney and Laura Steingold--were reappointed last week to serve another four years.
Along with making annual federal fund recommendations, the board helps plan and monitor the funded programs--which provide an array of assistance to low-income residents--to assure that they follow strict and often-changing federal guidelines.
Applicants must be Huntington Beach residents, have a working knowledge of low-income social programs and be willing to serve a four-year term. The city’s Community Services Department is accepting applications, from which the council will appoint new members. To date, the city has received just two applications.
