A school bus carrying six children overturned on Little Tujunga Road near Lake View Terrace, injuring the driver and two students from Hathaway School, authorities said Tuesday.

The 20-passenger bus, driven by Jonniece Chambers, 22, of Monrovia, rolled onto its left side at 1:55 p.m. Monday after reportedly swerving to avoid an oncoming car, California Highway Patrol Officer Larry McGuire said.

Chambers, a driver for Mark IV Charter Lines, and two students--a 14-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy--suffered minor injuries in the crash, McGuire said. Chambers and the girl were treated at Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar and released. The boy was treated by paramedics at the scene, McGuire said.

None of the other passengers--all students at the school for emotionally disturbed children--were injured, McGuire said.

Chambers told investigators that she was driving the bus south on the road about a mile north of Garrick Avenue when a white car heading north crossed the yellow line, causing her to swerve out of the way, McGuire said. The quick motion of the bus may have caused it to overturn, McGuire said.
