The Rancho Palos Verdes Planning Commission on Tuesday approved the 71-lot Kajima project, which would develop 59 acres near Crest and Highridge roads for home sites.

The commission also recommended that the City Council approve the project and certify its environmental impact report. In August, the development will come before the City Council, which will hold public hearings.

The tract, which is proposed by Kajima Development Corp. of Monterey Park, will have an average lot size of 15,500 square feet, with nearly half the acreage maintained as open space with public trails. If the tract is approved by the council as recommended by the commission, there will be 20 single-story homes, 18 split-level homes and 33 two-story homes. The commission action Tuesday included the granting of conditional-use and grading permits for the development.
