Santa Monica : Low-Flow Plumbing Rules

Share

Residential property owners will be required to install low-flow toilets, shower heads and faucets before selling their homes or apartment buildings if a plan proposed by the council is enacted.

The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to draft an ordinance that includes older properties in the municipal code, which now requires new and remodeled buildings to have low-flow plumbing fixtures.

City officials hope that the ordinance will give property owners an extra incentive to participate in the city’s water conservation program, BAYSAVER. Those participating in the program can receive a $100 per bathroom rebate and free low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators.
